Moisture in transformer insulating oil is a primary catalyst for equipment failure. It severely compromises dielectric strength (Breakdown Voltage) and accelerates the thermal degradation of solid cellulose (kraft paper) insulation. States of Water and MeasurementWater manifests in insulating oil in three states:
